Thursday Is Free at the DP World Tour Championship. For a Golfer, It May Be the Best Day.

What does the most expensive ticket at the season's last DP World Tour event buy that the free one doesn't? At the DP World Tour Championship, which starts this morning on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, the field is the same all four days. The extra cost goes on village programming and on Sunday's result.

The event runs from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November 2026. It is 72 holes of stroke play with no cut. Under the Tour's rules, the field is the top 50 available players on the Race to Dubai rankings after the Abu Dhabi Championship, which was played 5 to 8 November. With no cut, every player who tees off this morning is still on the course on Sunday. Emirates Hills sits beside The Montgomerie, so the golf is part of daily life here. For residents who want to watch the players more than the party, today's round is the best value of the week.

The four days, priced against what they offer

General admission is free today, though you still have to register in advance. Friday costs AED 60, and Saturday and Sunday cost AED 160 each. Under-18s get in free on every day but still need a registered ticket, and each booking is capped at four general admission tickets per day. Tickets are sold through the Tour's own ticketing page.

Day General admission Gates open Venue closes Village headline
Thursday 12 Nov AED 0, registration required 07:45 19:00 Rory McGettigan
Friday 13 Nov AED 60 07:45 20:00 Tone Deaf
Saturday 14 Nov AED 160 07:45 20:00 Ladies Day, Ark Angels
Sunday 15 Nov AED 160 06:45 19:00 Family Day, Greg Pearson, Magic Phil

The prices rise as the programming grows. On Friday the AED 60 ticket gets you the second round, with players still spread across the leaderboard, plus an evening set from Tone Deaf. On Saturday and Sunday you are paying for the trophy chase and the extras built around it.

The course is laid out for walking. There are no seated grandstands, and the 1st tee has only a standing platform. On a quieter weekday you can pick a group and follow it hole by hole. The practice range sits beside the Championship Village, with the putting green next to it and behind the clubhouse.

What the weekend price adds

The weekend days cost more, and the Tour has added more to them. Saturday is Ladies Day, and the Tour's weekend guide lists:

  • A Ladies Day wristband, collected at the Village Information Point between 7:00am and 3:00pm, that is good for two complimentary drinks at the Zonin Bar from 11:00am while stocks last
  • Chicks With Sticks golf clinics on the driving range, in one-hour sessions from 1:30pm to 4:30pm
  • The Ladies Golf Society Challenge, new for 2026, which brings local ladies' golf societies into the tournament
  • Trick shot shows through the day near the Golf For All zone on the range
  • Ark Angels on stage after play, at around 5pm

Sunday is Family Day. The Tour lists children's activities and a Magic Phil show, and Greg Pearson plays the closing set. Time Out Dubai also covered the Ladies Day program.

Some extras are offered every day, including today. REVIVE Pilates runs a free mat class at 9am each day, and places are booked through the Tour's ticketing system. The Championship Village program includes children's activities, free golf lessons and trick shot shows across the week. Teenagers who play at The Montgomerie can watch the same players on any day, and under-18 tickets cost nothing.

Sunday is the one day the golf justifies the price

For a golfer, only Sunday is worth paying for. The DP World Tour Championship is the second Play-Off event, and its winner is crowned Race to Dubai champion. It also carries a US$10 million prize fund, the largest of the season. If players finish level for first place, a hole-by-hole playoff decides it. That rule decided last year's event, when Matt Fitzpatrick beat Rory McIlroy in a playoff.

In its 30 October preview, the Tour named Eugenio Chacarra as Race to Dubai leader. It also listed Tommy Fleetwood, Adrian Meronk, Joe Dean, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Reed, Aaron Rai and Ryan Fox among the players heading to Dubai. On the Tour's rankings page at that time, the top five were Chacarra, Reed, McIlroy, Casey Jarvis and Rai. With that many contenders close together, the season title could change hands during Sunday's back nine. That gives Sunday a stake that no other day can match.

Gates open an hour early on Sunday, at 06:45, and the venue closes at 19:00. If you go only once, you have two good options. Today's free round shows the whole field at walking pace. Sunday's AED 160 round decides the season. Friday and Saturday sit between the two.

The shuttle timetable shapes the day more than the drive

From Emirates Hills, most people will think of driving. The organizers are trying to steer spectators the other way. On-site parking in the Public Car Park is limited. It costs AED 50 per vehicle if booked in advance or AED 80 on arrival. The organizers' route from Al Khail Road or Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road follows signs for Al Fay Road and continues past Production City to the Jumeirah Golf Estates exit. Overnight parking is not allowed, and cars left in the Public Car Park or Hospitality Car Park 2 after hours are fined and towed at the owner's expense. The car park closes 30 minutes after the venue. That is 19:30 today and Sunday, and 20:30 on Friday and Saturday.

The Tour encourages public transport. Free shuttle buses loop between Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station and the venue about every 30 minutes, subject to traffic. The timetable runs in one direction at a time:

  1. From 06:00 to 13:00, buses run from the Metro station to the venue.
  2. From 13:30 to 20:00, buses run from the venue back to the Metro station.

That timetable matters most for anyone planning a late arrival. Shuttles stop bringing spectators in at 13:00. On Sunday, the closing holes come later in the day, so anyone using the shuttle has to arrive before 13:00 for the finish. Taxi and ride-hail drop-off is available at the venue. Once inside Jumeirah Golf Estates, drivers follow the event signs to the taxi area.

Before you go, note that the venue is cashless and takes contactless payment only, with no ATM on site. There are no phone charging stations. Refill stations are spread around the course, so a reusable water bottle helps. The Tour's spectator FAQ says the UAE Play-Off events are "currently scheduled to go ahead as planned." It adds that the Tour is monitoring the situation in the Middle East and taking advice from local authorities where appropriate. Under the refund terms in the Tour's spectator FAQ, ticketholders may request a refund if there is a material change to the event's dates, location or ticket product.

Back at The Montgomerie, and the golf calendar after Sunday

Back in Emirates Hills, The Garden Project at Montgomerie Golf Club is open daily from noon to midnight. It has a full kitchen, live music and live sport on a giant screen. The weekly program continues through tournament week, with Friday Night Live from 8pm and a Sunday roast with live music. The operator's 29 October update says The Hills Club is still under construction, with The Garden Project serving as the community's venue while the work continues.

The golf-club calendar keeps going after the finale. Emirates Golf Club holds its Tree Lighting Celebration on 4 December. Jumeirah Golf Estates holds its own the following evening, 5 December, on the same grounds that hosted the finale three weeks earlier. Closer to home, The Garden Project has scheduled a Christmas Day brunch on Friday 25 December from 1pm to 4pm. Adult packages range from AED 450 to AED 675. It also has a New Year's Eve celebration planned for 31 December, with sharing food, free-flow drinks, live entertainment and views of the fireworks.

The Earth course has hosted the DP World Tour Championship since 2009.
